I'm kidding. Sort of. It is important to know where I've been and what I've done because it makes everything I'm saying feel a lot more legit. And you know what? I hated having to watch everyone else around me at 22 start their lives but I couldn't because I wanted my Masters and I wanted to be Board certified so at least the things that came out of my mouth were justified-but I knew if I stayed patient, studied, and put myself out there, it would be worth it in the end. And it was. So this section is not to blow smoke up my behind but to assure you that I have worked (and continue to work) on having those sentences come out of my mouth actually mean something:
Associates Degree in Small Business Retailing Management
Undergraduate Degree Bachelor's of Arts
Master's Degree in Science with Education
Board Certified Bariatric Counselor
Dietary Counselor in Family Owned Medical Office for 8 years
Before I made the complete switch over to nutrition, I was a dancer by heart (and honestly, the switch wasn't too difficult-health and nutrition enveloped my life as a dancer as it was). I was a choreographer and dance teacher from when I was small, all the way through college but had to stop to focus on my studying and thesis in my post-graduate classes. I still work out (hey, I can't help it) as often as I can, and have recently started running some 5k's (gotta take it slow-these knees aren't what they used to be) and always reinforce exercise and diet as hand in hand (come on, you KNEW that was coming).
When I get the chance, (and am asked), I teach at the local university in my city and speak at a few conferences but I really enjoy the office time. Building a relationship with each patient has taught me so many things I could never learn in a classroom. And that's why this page is titled the way it is-I don't care if you've graduated magna cum laude from a top ivy league school and now run the world-if you're an arrogant a$$, you're an arrogant a$$ and all that nonsense means absolutely nothing if you're just going to behave like you're better than everyone else. Because you're really not. Keeping it cool, staying humble, and always looking to further your education on your subject matter (while not thinking you know it all) is key to me. I'm not here to judge nor am I here to dictate, lecture, or insult. I'm here to HELP. ALWAYS.
